Suitable for use when breathing apparatus wearers may have to retrace their steps or when other wearers may have to find the team that laid the guideline. The line should be kept in a guideline bag which allows it to be stored and paid out correctly without becoming tangled. The line is fitted with special wayfinding tabs to allow breathing apparatus teams to find their way out of the incident by touch.
PLM recommend that at least one of these lines be kept available for use if it is foreseeable that breathing apparatus teams may have to enter an incident where visibility may be, or may become, poor. Additionally we recommend that these lines be used where vision may be good but where wayfinding may become difficult such as in underground tunnels, basements etc. If breathing apparatus teams may have to work with or alongside the fire service then we recommend that basic training be given to teams in guideline use and that one line be kept for training purposes.
